Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts belongs to the Robertses' fourth generation that live in the Atlanta area, starting with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. In the early years of his life, her dad became fascinated by acting. While a student at Emory University he appeared in numerous productions on and off campus. In 1953, he joined the Air Force and while stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he appeared in a show together with Betty Lou Bredemus. Eric Anthony was their first born. The couple was married in 1957. Walter went to Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana after leaving the Airforce in 1957. Walter was recruited by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to work on the set of Bum Bum and His Buddies. The show was filmed in Decatur Georgia. Walter along with Betty Lou began producing a children's television program in Decatur, Georgia called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They financed the production by themselves. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou established the Actors and Writers Workshop. It ran for six years. The couple had another two children, Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also known by the name Lisa) as well as Julia Billingsley (1967) (also also known by the same name Julie).
